How Drone Pressure Washing Works
BolAero Exterior Services uses free-flying commercial cleaning drones to deliver soft wash and pressure rinse to multi-story commercial buildings from the ground. No lifts, no ladders, no scaffolding. This page explains the technology, the process, and the safety controls behind every job.
How Our Drone System Works
Unlike consumer drones that carry their own water supply, our drone connects to a ground-based water supply unit via a supply hose. The drone itself is free-flying — this is what allows it to reach elevation safely without anchoring. This changes everything about how multi-story buildings get cleaned.
Ground-Based Water Supply
Water and cleaning solution are pumped from ground level through the tether line. The drone carries the delivery nozzle, not the water. This means unlimited cleaning capacity per flight — no landing to refill.
Controlled Pressure at Elevation
Pressure is regulated at the ground unit and delivered consistently regardless of height. The operator adjusts pressure, flow rate, and spray pattern in real time based on the surface being cleaned.
Real-Time Operator Control
A single FAA-certified pilot controls the drone from ground level with live video feed. Cleaning angle, dwell time, and coverage pattern are adjusted continuously during the job.
Physical Tether Safety
The tether line connects the drone to the ground unit at all times. If power or signal is lost, the drone does not fly away — it descends along the tether. This is a mechanical safety system, not a software feature.
The Ground System Behind Every Job
The drone carries the nozzle — everything that feeds it rides in our self-contained mobile rig. Pumps, hot water, chemistry, multi-stage filtration, and reels, calibrated per surface before the crew arrives. No water, power, or staging demand on your building.
4-Stage Water Filtration
Four filter stages strip every impurity from the water for a true spot-free rinse — no mineral spotting on glass or panels.
Pressure & Soft-Wash Pumps
High-flow pumps for both pressure rinse and low-pressure soft wash.
Hot-Water System
Heated water for grease, oil, and heavy biological buildup.
Chemical Mixing
Precise dilution of soaps and cleaning agents matched to each surface.
Hose Reels
Dedicated reels for soft wash, pressure wash, and clean-water intake.
Soap, Filters & Water Tank
Onboard soap supply, filtration, and water storage for a full day on site.
Self-Contained Rig
Water, power, and chemistry arrive on site — no demand on your building.
The Method Stack
Every building gets a cleaning plan built from these methods. We select and combine based on surface type, height, condition, and property use.
Soft Wash
Low-pressure chemical application for delicate surfaces. Biodegradable cleaning agents break down algae, mold, mildew, and organic staining without surface damage. Used on EIFS, stucco, painted surfaces, and wood.
Surfaces: EIFS, stucco, painted surfaces, wood siding
Pressure Rinse
Higher-pressure water delivery for durable surfaces. Removes heavy soiling, efflorescence, and mineral deposits from concrete, masonry, and precast. Pressure calibrated per surface type.
Surfaces: Concrete, masonry, precast, brick
Pure Water Window Rinse
Deionized water delivered at controlled flow for exterior glass. Dries spot-free without chemicals or squeegees. No residue on frames or seals.
Surfaces: Exterior glass, curtain walls, window frames
Roof Soft Wash
Chemical treatment applied from above without foot traffic on the membrane. Growth inhibitors slow algae and moss regrowth. No fall risk, no membrane damage.
Surfaces: TPO, EPDM, modified bitumen, metal standing seam, tile
Solar Panel Rinse
Deionized water rinse for routine dust and debris — manufacturer-recommended, leaves zero residue. For heavier fouling (cement dust, salts, oily film), BolAero applies a specialized panel-safe cleaning solution formulated for drone delivery: non-etching, residue-free, and safe for AR coatings, tempered glass, and aluminum frames.
Surfaces: Photovoltaic panels, solar thermal collectors
Ground Crew Add-Ons
Sidewalks, parking structures, dumpster pads, loading docks, and ground-level surfaces cleaned by a separate ground crew working in coordination with drone operations. BolAero also offers a hot water wash option — our trailer-mounted boiler system delivers heated water for surfaces with grease, oil, or heavy biological buildup where standard cold water is not sufficient.
Surfaces: Concrete flatwork, parking areas, sidewalks
FAA Part 107 Compliance
Every BolAero Exterior Services drone operation is conducted under an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. This is not optional and not self-certified — it is a federal aviation credential requiring examination, background check, and biennial renewal. Our operators carry current Part 107 credentials on every job site. Operations follow published FAA guidelines for commercial UAS flight in urban environments, including pre-flight checklists, airspace verification, and weather minimums.
Height Capabilities — The Honest Answer
Our drone reaches up to 300 feet — approximately 24 stories*, per FAA operational guidelines for hose-connected commercial drones. For taller structures, we use a staged zone approach: reposition the equipment to an accessible intermediate floor and clean the next section from there. We are transparent about this because commercial property managers need accurate information for procurement decisions, not marketing claims.
Effective Operating Range
Standard jobs up to 24 stories* — approximately 300 feet — operate without repositioning in most cases. This covers the majority of commercial properties in the DFW market. Wind, hose configuration, and site conditions are the real-world variables on any given job.
Staged Zone Approach for Taller Buildings
For buildings above 24 stories*, we use a staged zone approach: clean the lower section from ground level, reposition the equipment to an accessible intermediate floor — a parking deck, mechanical level, or setback terrace — and clean the upper section from there. Total achievable height depends on available intermediate floors and site conditions.
When Drone Cleaning Is Not the Right Fit
Some building geometries, extreme heights, or site conditions may not be ideal for drone cleaning. We identify these situations during the assessment and will tell you directly rather than attempt a job that would compromise results.
Safety Controls on Every Job
Exclusion Zones
Physical boundaries established before work begins. No pedestrians, vehicles, or unauthorized personnel within the active cleaning zone during operations.
Spotter Protocol
A dedicated ground spotter monitors the work zone independently of the drone pilot. The spotter watches for pedestrian encroachment, vehicle movement, and environmental changes.
Pedestrian Management
Temporary signage, barriers, and alternative pedestrian routing deployed before the drone launches. Building occupants and visitors are routed around the active zone.
Pre-Job Site Survey
Every job begins with a documented site survey covering power lines, antennas, overhangs, wind exposure, and pedestrian traffic patterns. Hazards are identified and mitigated before operations start.
Weather Minimums
Operations are suspended when wind speed, precipitation, or visibility fall below safe thresholds. Rescheduling is immediate with no additional charge.
What Drone Cleaning Does Not Replace
We are a commercial-only operation and we are direct about what drone cleaning is and is not built for. Knowing our limits is part of the service.
Residential properties
We do not service single-family homes, private residences, or small residential structures. Our equipment, chemistry, and crew protocols are built for commercial buildings — office towers, apartment complexes, industrial facilities, and similar structures. Residential work is a different trade with different standards. We refer it out.
Surfaces requiring physical contact
Drone cleaning delivers chemistry and rinse from elevation. It does not physically scrub surfaces. Heavily oxidized metal, deep graffiti into porous masonry, and certain hard water mineral deposits on glass may require hands-on restoration work. We identify these situations during the site survey and tell you before we schedule.
Buildings requiring interior access
Our operation is entirely exterior and ground-based. We do not require roof access, interior building access, elevator use, or tenant notification beyond a courtesy window. If a job requires entering the building or accessing mechanical equipment rooms, it is outside our scope.
Extremely deferred maintenance
A building that has not been cleaned in five or more years with heavy biological growth, scale buildup, or structural surface damage may need a remediation contractor before drone cleaning is appropriate. We will tell you this during the assessment — we do not take jobs we cannot complete to standard.

Questions About Drone Pressure Washing
How does a pressure washing drone actually work?
Our drone connects to a ground-based water supply unit via a supply hose. Water and cleaning solution are pumped up through that line to a spray nozzle on the drone. The drone itself is free-flying — an FAA-certified pilot controls it and adjusts pressure, angle, and coverage pattern in real time from the ground.
Is drone pressure washing safe for buildings?
Yes. Pressure and chemistry are selected per surface type — soft wash for delicate materials, pressure rinse for durable surfaces. The drone never contacts the building. Controlled application from a distance is gentler than workers on scaffolding with handheld equipment.
How high can a cleaning drone reach?
Up to 300 feet — approximately 24 stories*, per FAA operational guidelines for hose-connected commercial drones. For taller buildings, we use a staged zone approach: reposition the equipment to an accessible intermediate floor and clean the next section from there. The realistic maximum on any specific building depends on available intermediate floors and site conditions. We assess every property individually before quoting.
Do you need FAA approval for each job?
Our pilots hold current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificates, which authorize commercial drone operations. Individual job authorization is not required for most operations, though certain restricted airspace zones near airports require additional FAA coordination.
What happens if it rains during a scheduled cleaning?
Operations are rescheduled at no additional cost. We monitor weather conditions continuously and will postpone proactively rather than attempt work in unsafe conditions.
How does drone cleaning compare to traditional methods?
Drone cleaning eliminates scaffolding, lift rental, and aerial work platform costs. It typically runs 30-50% less than equivalent traditional methods, completes in 1-3 days instead of 1-3 weeks, and requires no sidewalk closures or parking displacement.
Is BolAero Exterior Services the same as El Bolero or other Bolero businesses?
No. BolAero Exterior Services is a Dallas–Fort Worth commercial drone exterior cleaning company. It is not affiliated with restaurants, apparel brands, music, vehicles, or any other unrelated business that uses a similar name.
